A Couple of Great Stories

"It's a moo-cow!"

Dear Friends and Prayer Warriors,

Sometimes when I sit down to write a blog post I get distracted and I leave out the good stuff.  I love working with Charlie.  Because he moves slower than I do it reminds me that people matter more than tasks do.  In case you missed it, this is an excerpt from his update last week.

"Nearly two weeks ago, Pastor Paul Miller asked me (Charlie) to go with him to pray, according to James 5:14, with a family who’s fifteen year old son has been recently diagnosed with a tumor on his head, behind his ear.  So, one week ago, Sunday we went to the house for that purpose.  During our visit Paul presented the gospel message to insure that their hearts were prepared to pray.  Guess what!  The thirteen year old son declared that he wanted to be born again and accepted Jesus as his Savior right there in his family living room and, “ there is joy in the presence of the angels “.  Luke 15:10.  Last Sunday afternoon the entire family, Father, Mother and two Sons made a public declaration of their faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior and were baptized in the YMCA swimming pool."

This is why we do what we do.  While this families spiritual needs are now being met in Christ, they've got physical needs too.  The medical bills are coming.  As their Christian family, by God's grace, we'll able to bless them and families like them with food, warm clothes, and sometimes even a bed to sleep on.  Thank you for enabling that.

Recently, a family came to us needing a bed.  We were blessed that day to be able to give them one.  While we were asking about their other needs, the young man said his dad really needed a clothes dryer, since his had broken a couple of weeks earlier.

As the Lord would have it, we did have a working dryer that we were able to give them.  We've begun a relationship with them and are praying the Lord will draw this family to Himself.  How they got the dryer home is East TN at its finest.

The class I'm teaching at the Seminary Extension is also going well. The other night after class I was talking with one of my students, and he asked if he could reuse the powerpoints.  He said the Lord had timed the class perfectly to meet him where he is and strengthen him in his walk, so now he's teaching the same content from our class to his Sunday school class.  One of the best ways to learn is to teach.  The exciting thing for me is to see the Lord multiplying our ministry, reaching those I could never reach personally.  This is how spiritual multiplication is supposed to work.  Paul said to Timothy: "You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also." Praise the Lord for the chance to see this happening.

In our home life, we're in the short rows of the home building process, and hope to be in just a few more weeks.  Lily is growing like a weed.  This week she's finally grasped the concept of colors and is beginning to get them right most of the time, which is just fun.  She's also become a back seat driver.  If you stomp on the brakes a little to hard, she'll quickly inform you to "Watch out for the cars!"  Can't wait for our next road trip.

Things you can be praying for:

1.  Please pray the Lord would supply donations of furniture.  We've not had any in a few weeks, and we get requests every day, also please pray the Lord would supply us with coats and blankets.  This is the start of the time of year when those items are in high demand.
2.  After having radiation treatments for cancer last winter, praise the Lord Charlie was given a cancer-free clean bill of health by his doctor last week.
3.  Please pray for my class at the seminary extension.  We wrap up next week, so pray the Lord will use the relationships that have been built to open doors of opportunity for future classes.
4.  Please pray for Meredith and I as we prepare to move in the next month.  This is our 6th move in 5 years of marriage, and while we're excited about the end result, we're not very excited about the boxing up and moving process. Pray the Lord would protect our marriage and let us communicate well through the process.

On Sunday afternoon, we went took Lily to a local pumpkin patch to pick pumpkins!

She got to pet the sheep!

She wanted to go over the fence!

It's a horsey!

The goat was not so sure about Lily.

Two beautiful ladies on a hayride!

We rode the hayride out to the pumpkin patch.

Me: "What's that Lily?" Lily: "That's a biiiiiiiiiiiig pumpkin!"

We each picked a pumpkin.

Our little family of pumpkins is now on the front porch of our soon to be house.

Lily loves being outside, and she had a great time at the pumpkin patch and on the hay ride.
